However, the study also showed that citizens of the UK still favored Queen Elizabeth II, narrowly pushing Judi Dench into second place in terms of national respect.

The top ten most admired women also include Michelle Obama, Celine Dion, Oprah Winfrey, and Julia Roberts. The Queen was also among the women widely admired across the world.

Taylor Swift and Beyonce Knowles come close to Merkel, occupying the 11th and 12th positions. Sonia Gandhi from India is placed at the 13th spot, while Jennifer Lawrence follows closely behind. Although Kate Middleton secures the 15th position globally, she is voted as the sixth most admired person in the UK, ahead of Aung San Suu Kyi but behind Helen Mirren, who takes the fourth spot.
