Gal Gadot opens up about upcoming live-action remake of Snow White and reveals she had to audition to land role of Evil Queen

The upcoming live-action musical fantasy film Snow White will feature Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Despite her A-list status from playing Wonder Woman in two feature films, the actress had to audition for the role in the remake of Walt Disney’s 1937 animated feature film Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. Director Marc Webb and producers wanted to ensure that Gadot could sing, as this is a musical, so they asked her to perform a scene from the screenplay. Gadot revealed during an interview with GQ that it was the first time in a while that she had to audition for a project. She also shared that she spent a significant amount of time preparing for the audition by practicing her singing.

The lead actress of the Fast & Furious franchise, Gal Gadot, recently shared that she had to audition for her role as the Evil Queen in the upcoming live-action remake of Snow White. Despite being an A-list star, she spent a month practicing her musical skills before filming the audition song. The film will also feature new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the songwriting duo behind The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen. Principal photography for the movie has already been wrapped, and Gadot called the experience “different from anything I’ve ever done.” She also revealed that her daughter initially thought she would be playing Snow White but was delighted when she learned her mother would portray the villain. In an interview with Deadline, Gadot admitted that she is not used to playing a villain on screen and is more accustomed to playing characters with a kind heart.

The upcoming live-action adaptation of Walt Disney’s 1937 animated feature film Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs will feature Israeli actress Gal Gadot as the lead character’s evil stepmother, opposite Rachel Zegler who will play Snow White. Development on the project began in 2016, with director Marc Webb signing on three years later and a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. Due to COVID-19 pandemic delays, production began in March 2022 and wrapped up in mid-July of the same year. Alongside Gadot and Zegler, the cast includes Ansu Kabia, Martin Klebba, Andrew Burnap (a new character), and Colin Michael Carmichael. The highly-anticipated film is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on March 22, 2024.
