Feeling fishy: Katy Perry wears sushi-embroidered leotard in Japan

Visitors to Japan often jump at the chance to try some authentic sushi. But Katy Perry didn’t want to eat the fish and rice – she wanted to wear it.

As the pop star performed at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan she pulled back her kimono to reveal an unusual choice of undergarment – a leotard embroidered with rows of sushi.

The glittering California rolls seemed to amuse the fans at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, north of Tokyo, who reached out as she danced in front of them.

Turning Japanese: Katy casts off her kimono to reveal her sushi underwear

It wasn’t the first time 24-year-old Katy has donned an unusual outfit for a stage show.

Last week she dressed as a mermaid and made her stage entrance inside a giant seashell at a concert in Vienna, and a day before she dressed in a clingfilm-style catsuit to party with boyfriend Travis McCoy.

Katy is currently in the midst of her world tour, which is taking her all over the U.S., Europe and Japan.

Her UK dates include shows in London, Brighton, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow next month.
