Did you know that Scarlett Johansson, a popular Hollywood actress known for playing superhero roles, wasn’t always a fan of the genre? In a 2019 interview, she shared how her interest in superhero movies was sparked by watching Iron Man in 2008. Although she went on to play the character of Natasha Romanoff in several Marvel films including Iron Man 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, it was Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal of Iron Man that inspired her to join the Marvel universe.

The 35-year-old expressed her admiration for Marvel and their unique style, stating that she had never seen anything like it before. Although not particularly a fan of superhero genres, she found it groundbreaking and wanted to work with them. This was stated in an interview with Vanity Fair last year. Back in 2010, when she became a part of Iron Man 2, she expressed her excitement about being a part of the film and how she researched the comic books in order to develop her character. She viewed her character as determined and ambitious.

Scarlett snagged the role in her solo Marvel film, Black Widow, after Emily Blunt turned it down. However, being the second choice didn’t faze Scarlett. In fact, she revealed to Parade magazine earlier this year that receiving a call after being rejected for something is the best feeling because it makes you appreciate it more. Scarlett even joked that she’s made a career out of being the runner-up. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has indefinitely delayed the release of Black Widow, which also stars Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz. Despite this setback, Scarlett is enjoying new beginnings in her personal life.
